Ladies, one of the easiest and most elegant ways to create a sophisticated look is to throw on a long dress. Long dresses work wonders for the feminine form, as they cling to your curves, elongate you and prepare you for any occasion. For many fiercely real women, wearing a long dress means finding the proper shoes to keep your frock from dragging on the ground. The best shoes will elevate you and keep your long dress looking its best.

Wedges

As comfortable as they are chic, wedges and long dresses are a perfect fit. They give you the extra height you need without being as uncomfortable as other shoe styles. Many people associate wedges with spring and summer; however, there are wedge styles that can be worn year round, so this is a shoe you should definitely invest in. Just because you're wearing a long dress doesn't mean that you should neglect to wear shoes with detail. Whenever you're walking or sitting, your shoes will be seen, so make sure they are attention grabbers. Look for bold color, embellishments and hardware when choosing a wedge.

Sandals

On a beautiful, warm spring or summer day there a few things more comfortable than a long dress and a pair of sandals. The look is understated, but fashionable and versatile. With sandals, it's always good to have several pairs that are well-suited for many occasions. The classic thong sandal always works with a long dress and is perfect for daytime outings. However, if you are on the shorter side you may want to choose a style with a little height to keep the dress from dragging. For a flashier, more fashion-forward look, try gladiator sandals in a gold shade or with tons of detail. Gladiator sandals are just dressy enough to work well at a nice dinner or for a couple of cocktails.

Strappy Stilettos

When you have a more formal occasion to go to in your long dress, pair it with a fierce pair of strappy stilettos. Focus on the details and color of the shoe -- anything that gives it extra sparkle. The proportions of a long dress and strappy stilettos are nice: All that extra fabric is balanced by thin, delicate heels. Styles with ankle straps, buckles, rhinestones and bright colors are lovely with an elegant long dress.

Platform Pumps

This look is a little harder to master. With a platform pump and a long dress, you must be careful not to make the look chunky or dated. If you choose a platform pump, keep it modern with a round toe and a thin heel. Pointed toes can work, but can look conservative. Avoid any type of chunky heel: Instead of elegant, it looks costumey and sloppy.
