Denim isn't just for jeans. You'll sizzle in a cute and sassy denim dress. Wear a denim mini (not too short, now) for a night out or a longer frock for a casual day out and about. The shoes, of course, make the outfit, so choose footwear wisely. Forget about playing it safe and have fun with funky heels, cool boot styles or comfortable and chic sandals.

Pointy Toe Pumps

Pointy toe pumps make a statement on their own, so they are best with a fairly simple denim dress. Songstress Estelle worked this look on the red carpet in 2009 with a pair of neutral-toned pointy toed pumps and a denim mini-dress. The seriousness and sheer sophistication of the shoe balanced out the whimsy of the dress perfectly. Choose a heel height you are comfortable walking in. You have several options; pointy toe shoes look great in a higher heel or in a simple kitten heel design.

High-Heeled Sandals

High-heeled sandals are a do, no matter what type of dress you're wearing, but they match the casual chic of denim. Depending on the season, you can go with an open-toe style or keep those toes warm with a closed toe sandal. To complement the denim dress, play with colors and patterns. Add color shots to your outfit with your shoes and accessories. Keep the heel at medium length for optimal comfort and fashion.

Dress down a denim dress with a pair of cute canvas sneakers and equally simple accessories. Bulky athletic shoes won't work here; they are too voluminous for a dress and will drag down your entire look. Instead, try a simple canvas sneaker and play with colors and designs. For example, a graffiti-printed sneaker or one covered in glittering pink sequins makes a fun addition to your denim dress look.

If you've been dying to pair ankle boots with a dress, the time is now. Venture out with something new and fashion forward by pairing your denim dress -- it should fall just above the knee to make this look work -- with a pair of ankle boots. You could also channel your inner cowgirl with a pair of stylish cowboy boots and a flared denim dress, but don't let the cowgirl theme overtake your look. Add some sophisticated elements -- such as sleek silver jewelry, a chic clutch or a sophisticated belt -- to balance out the rest of the outfit.
