Skinny jeans are everywhere -- on the racks, in the glossies, on celebrities! Although designers show new, wider-leg denim jeans for upcoming seasons, globe-trotting trend-setters are still donning their skinny jeans and jeggings (jean leggings) everywhere they go. While it is not the easiest look to wear, the trick to mastering skinny jeans is knowing what kind of top to pair them with.
A casual chic option to pair with any skinny jean -- no matter the wash -- is a simple white T-shirt. The T-shirt can be solid white or have a print, and it should be longer than the waist band. Because the jeans are already fitted, wearing a fuller shirt on top balances the look. Try something in an animal print for an edgier look.
For a preppier look, pair your skinny jeans with a simple button-up shirt dress in white, cream or light blue. The top should look like a longer version of a dress shirt, and the length should fall right around the top part of your thigh. Stick to a medium fit -- if the shirt is too fitted it looks bulgy, and if it is too over-sized it looks like your boyfriend's shirt (and not in the trendy boyfriend button-up way). Top the look off with a skinny belt just below the waist or a statement bib necklace to add flair.
Tunics are bohemian chic options to wear with skinny jeans. They are naturally fuller and provide a balance for the fitted denim. Plus, they add a more relaxed feel to the look. For a darker, acid-wash skinny jean, try a pretty purple tunic with an Egyptian or Indian print for a modern, nonfussy look.
So your favorite winter sweater dress shrunk in the wash and it is too short to wear on its own. Don't fret. Wear it with a pair of skinny jeans so that it falls at just the right length! When pairing a sweater dress with skinny jeans, the sweater should cover your butt, but it doesn't need to fall to your knees. The best options are sweaters that taper on top and fit loosely on the bottom. For chunkier sweaters, add a skinny belt at your natural waist to avoid looking frumpy.
