Blow dryers, curling irons and flat-irons can all wreak havoc on your hair. And if you have curly hair that tends to be dry anyway, heat styling can take it over the edge. A moisture-rich shampoo can help. Next time you wash your hair, give your dry, dull tresses a renewed luster by stocking your shower with the right shampoo.

Allure's Picks

On Allure's Daily Beauty Reporter Blog, the magazine's beauty director, Amy Keller Laird, says shampoos with creamy formulas, including ingredients such as shea butter or panthenol, will moisturize dry hair. She suggests Fekkai Advanced Essential Shea Butter Shampoo. John Frieda Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Shampoo won Allure's Best of Beauty Awards 2010. The shampoo contains silk proteins and olive oil.

Honey Elixer

The Wild Ferns Manuka Honey Shampoo contains a type of honey from New Zealand, where the brand is made. The shampoo is featured as one of InStyle's 50 Best Hair Tips from Around the World. Auckland hairstylist Mana Dave told the magazine that honey moisturizes and conditions hair, while it also acts as a protectant -- so it would be great to use before heat-styling.

Kerastase Options

Cosmopolitan says the entire Kerastase line (which includes a range of shampoos), are great for dry hair. The brand has celebrity fans. Blake Lively, of NBC's Gossip Girl, told Cosmopolitan that Kerastase hair products are her picks for beauty products she can't live without. If your hair is extremely dry, go with the Kerastase shampoo featured in the U.K. edition of "Marie Claire": Kerastase's Bain Oleo Relax. It's a rich smoothing shampoo that will tame frizz and unruly curls. The formula is designed for dry, coarse hair. It contains Nutri-Huille complex, an ingredient for softness and shine, as well as silicone derivatives for anti-frizz protection.

Curls Damage

Glamour's editors tested 50 shampoos to find the best for different types of hair. The winner in the curly hair category was Bumble & Bumble's Curl Conscious Smoothing Shampoo, which was chosen for its ability to encourage curls over frizz. John Freida Root Awakening Strength Restoring Shampoo was chosen as the best for damage control. This shampoo helps smooth and add shine to damaged split ends caused by styling your hair with heat appliances.
