Whether you getting ready to march down the wedding aisle or the red carpet, your hairstyle should be a knockout. Romantic and chic hairstyles bridge the gap between feminine and fashion-forward, highlighting your hair's texture and brightening your features. Understated accessories or subtle highlights create finishing touches for a lavish look. Keep elegant hairstyles looking healthy and gleaming by trimming away damage every four to six weeks.

Sleek Updo

When you want to showcase your facial features, particularly your cheekbones, slick back your hair into a sleek updo. This style works well for women with straight, wavy or loosely curly hair. While your hair is damp, work mousse through your roots. If you tend to get frizz or flyaways, add some smoothing pomade on your top layer of hair and at the ends. Secure it on top for ballerina style, or wear it lower for a boho chic effect.

Long and Loose Waves

Highlight your hair's length and volume by wearing it in long, loose waves. If your hair is straight, style it with a curling iron that has a large barrel. Spritz spray gel on waves to make them hold. If you have naturally wavy hair, use a light moisturizing conditioner so they don't frizz and set them with spray gel. If you have tighter curls, make them look looser and more defined using a thick leave-in conditioner and hair putty and gently shaping your curls.

Partial Updo

It's the mussed-up look that makes this hairstyle chic rather than cheerleader. Before gathering your straight, wavy or curly hair into a partial updo, tease it along your crown. If you want the rest of your hair to have a bedhead look, backcomb it or, for curly girls, shake it out. Pull your hair back, avoiding giving your hair a center part. Pull sections out front to form into long, slimming strands along your face or romantic tendrils. Spray this 'do with shine serum for a touch of polish.

Finishing Touches

Long, thin highlights in loose hair can give your look a subtle update. If you prefer natural color, use accessories to make your style more luxe or trendy. A small rhinestone clip gives your updo shine, while a thin, patterned ribbon or scarf adds an eye-catching print to your look. Make that perfectly shaped curl or wave stand out by clipping it in place with a metallic bobby pin.
