Rollers come in a multitude of styles and shapes to create different curls. A curl-making system that appeals to many is rollers that you pull your hair through with a needle. Although they look a little funky, the simple design of these rollers makes them a winning choice for setting your hair.

Prepare Your Hair

Start with freshly washed and conditioned hair for best results. After towel drying your tresses well, add a little styling gel or mousse to make your hair behave. The texture of the gel or mousse will force your hair to curl obediently and it should hold the curls longer.

Choose Roller Sizes

The rollers you use depend on the length of your hair. Short hair up to 9 inches long needs the smallest rollers. Medium length hair between 9 and 16 inches needs the medium-size rollers. Longer hair up to 22 inches needs the rollers that go the distance for extra long hair.

Roll it Up

Clip up the hair on the top of your head, leaving just the hair along the nape of your neck to start rolling. Section off small sections, 1 to 2 inches wide. Comb the section smooth and then twist it twice tightly at your scalp. Push the special hook, which resembles a large needle, through the roller so the eye of the hook pokes out the top of the roller. Insert the eye over the twist on the hair section and pull the other end of the hook back out of the roller, pulling the hair section down into the roller. Keep pulling until the section of hair disappears into the roller and then let go. Working your way up your entire head of hair to the front along your forehead.

Blow it Out or Sleep it Off

If you have the time, go ahead and sleep overnight on the rollers. They’ll stay secure on your head and your hair will dry inside while you sleep. If you’re in a hurry, grab your blow dryer and set it to a medium heat to dry your hair inside the curlers. Keep drying until your hair is completely dry.

Unveil the Curls

Grasp a section of hair right near your scalp where you twisted it. As you hold the section of hair, pull the curler off the hair gently. Keep pulling the curler until it comes completely off your hair. Remove every roller in the same way. Finger-comb your curls lightly and style your hair however you choose. Spritz the curls with a little hair spray to keep them from fading.
