Whether it is a fabulous form of rebellion or stylish manifestation of angst, rocker haircuts make a statement. Some styles, like the pixie and shag, are downright institutional, as they have been worn by iconic musicians and emulators from generation to generation. And, with a change of hair color and a plethora of styling products, the right edgy haircut can be epic -- especially if you have the attitude to pull it off.

Buzz Cut

Nothing sends the newspapers in a tizzy like a rock star buzz-cutting her hair off. A simple and severe style, the buzz cut really draws attention to the shape of your head -- especially if has been dyed an outlandish color, like orange or platinum blond. This is partly because the hair is all one minuscule length, with very little to hide flaws. On the plus side, if you have striking features and aren’t afraid to show them off, you can really benefit from the haircut.

Grungy Pixie

Rockers who don’t want to commit to cutting off all their locks can opt for an edgy pixie. The pixie cut is classic, featuring shorter sides and a fuller crown. The style can be made infinity more rebellious by adding chunky layers or bold highlights. And, if that isn’t enough, there are styling products -- from styling mousse to sticky pomade -- that can help your locks look as if you just rolled out of bed (but in a good way).

The Shag

A hairstyle that thrives on its heavy fringe, the shag is the quintessential rock chic haircut. The rest of the hair is cut shoulder-length and is often layered to give it a messy-chic appearance. Cutting drastic chunky layers can make this style more punk rock -- which can be further accentuated by a bright hair color like hot pink. Add styling product to give the mane a more nonchalant tousled appearance -- as if you have been rocking all night in an underground club.

Half-Shaved

A longer rocker style is the half-shaved cut, which features a mane of fully grown hair with one side buzzed off. The long hair is usually untouched and layered only circumstantially -- as if the result of a lack of grooming. To accentuate its unrefined quality, sometimes the hairstyle features visible roots and is left in loose natural waves. This grunge hairstyle has been made more glamorous by A-listers, such as American songstress Cassie and British Model Alice Dellal.
