Former Dior designer Robert Rodriguez combines romantic ruffles and ultra-feminine details in his contemporary line, Robbi & Nikki. Designed for women of all ages and backgrounds, the collection uses body-conscious silhouettes and floaty fabrics. Rodriguez states his pieces were purposefully designed to mix and match, with limitless styling options. And at a more affordable price point than Rodriguez' namesake collection, Robbi & Nikki makes aspirational fashion a reality.
Robbi & Nikki designer Robert Rodriguez grew up idolizing the vintage creations of Christian Dior. He pursued fashion design as a discipline in college, enrolling at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. As a student, he won the Critics' Award for Best Designer of the Year. After graduation, Rodriguez accepted a position at Dior, the fashion house he admired as a child. He credits this stint at Dior for giving him the boost he needed to start his own line.
Developing a Brand
In 2003, Rodriguez and business partner Nicola Guarna founded Moda Nicola International, LLC. The corporation houses Rodriguez' flagship collection, Robert Rodriguez, and contemporary lines Black Label and Robbi & Nikki. After increasing success in luxury boutiques and high-end department stores, Moda Nicola was acquired in a $28 million deal with Jones Apparel Group, Inc. in 2010. "We see great potential in this brand and look forward to working with Robert and his team," Jones Apparel President and CEO Wesley Card said in a press release documenting the deal.
Robbi & Nikki designs are flowy, flirty and tasteful. Ruching, ruffles and laser-cut detailing abound in this collection, creating a delicate and floaty silhouette. Knitwear includes cropped cardigans and oversized crocheted sweaters for the relaxed "boyfriend" look. Tunic tops become body-conscious with thoughtful drawstrings and empire seaming. Face-framing deep "V" and asymmetrical necklines add dimension and visual interest. A neutral color palette and muted prints keep these pieces timeless and versatile.
Robert Rodriguez claims his designs are made for seamless integration into your current wardrobe. In an interview with publication "Vegas Seven," Rodriguez says his clothing is designed with different types of women in mind, suggesting he has something suitable for any lifestyle. Making a concentrated effort to be inclusive, Rodriguez says his customer base is comprised of strong, sexy women of all ages who appreciate clean design.
