You are a lucky girl. If you have an oblong face shape you can wear most hairstyles and still look gorgeous. Pulling your hair back into a sleek bun accentuates your softly curved features. Whether you are simply enjoying a day at the beach and want an easy, casual style or attending a formal gathering, choose a bun that maximizes your face shape.

Oblong Features

You share your oblong face with celebrities, including Gwyneth Paltrow. Much like an oval face, an oblong face is well-proportioned and has soft lines. It is longer than it is wide. Your cheekbones might be slightly wider than your chin. Your hair line has a pretty curve, which a bun shows off nicely. You can get away with a variety of bun styles, as the updo shows off your balanced features.

Options

You want your bun to minimize the length of your face. You can get away with a classy top knot – much like those worn by ballerinas. Fasten the knot at the upper back part of your head for the best look. Straight-across bangs can add dimension to your long face; keep these visible even when pulling your hair back.

Avoid

Stay away from buns placed directly on top of the head as this can add more length to your face. When styling your bun, avoid a severe middle part which also accentuates length. Go for an invisible part or a side part instead.

Considerations

If a classic bun is too humdrum for you, try a variation that still shows off your oblong face. Twist a section of hair that feeds into your bun to add interest at the top of your head. You could also braid a section along the side and fasten the bulk of your hair in a knot to make your bun stand out as young and hip. Adding these points of interest along the upper side of your head can break up the length of your face.
