A simple bun transforms any bad-hair day into a stylish, put-together kind of day. While it may seem like a lot of effort to put long hair up into a neat little bun, your length will actually help you sling that stuff up in no time. In five minutes or less, you can create a perfectly bunned-up you.
Materials
To get your hair up in a bun, you don't need anything other than an old ponytail holder and a few bobby pins -- look in your makeup box underneath all the makeup. You'll be surprised by what you find if you do some digging. An ordinary brush or comb will get the tangles out and help you smooth the sides back.
Pulling it Up
Start by pulling your hair into a high ponytail at the crown of your head -- the high part where your whirl is. Secure the ponytail by wrapping the holder around your hair tightly. Separate your ponytail in half and pull the halves in opposite directions to push the holder tightly against your scalp. Gently comb or brush away any bumps.
Creating the Bun
Comb through your ponytail and grasp it in the palm of one hand. Start twisting the ponytail until it becomes taut and starts to get shorter. Keep twisting the hair and start wrapping it around the ponytail holder. When you get to the ends, tuck them under and secure them with a couple of bobby pins.
Making it Last
Secure the bun with several bobby pins pushed into the bun at different spots. Check the security of the bun by wiggling it just a bit. If it moves, add more pins. When it feels secure, make any adjustments and finish it off with a firm-hold finishing spray.
