In the course of her working life, every professional woman is bound to have an evening event where she just has no clue what to wear. You want to impress your bosses, your co-workers and any potential career-influencing folk and the pressure is on. There are multiple ways to look really chic but still be conservative enough to be business appropriate. Because you’ll be attending an evening event, fancier is better, so show off your professionalism and fashion sense all at once.
Sheath Dress
Fashion editors at Marie Claire note that keeping it simple when attending a business event is key. They recommend donning a sheath dress, pumps and subtle jewelry with a sweater in tow in case it gets chilly. This is generally a great rule to stick to: Pick a simply cut dress that's work appropriate (read: no cleavage) and accessorize lightly. That isn’t to say you can’t have a little fun. Choose a red dress or a leopard-print pump, but keep your funk to a minimum.
Suit
A suit is bound to impress any current or potential business contacts so wear a nicely tailored pantsuit or a skirt suit to your next business event. Because the suit is so innately professional, you can go a bit more colorful and stay serious enough to make a good impression. Try a red skirt suit or a bold shoe with your ensemble to add some fashion fun.
Pencil Skirt and Blouse
If you are so not into suits but want to look put together and feminine, try tucking a blouse into a high-waisted pencil skirt and donning some heels along with it. Laura Sinberg of Forbes warns that a low-cut shirt can undermine you as a professional, so make sure that your blouse covers the girls. Add style to this look by wearing a cinch belt that has a print or contrasting hue, or carrying an interesting clutch.
Slacks and Blouse
You can definitely still wear nice slacks to an event of this caliber but make sure to go fancier on other accounts. Wear an embellished silk blouse, dressy heels and some formal jewelry like drop earrings or a classy statement necklace to take this outfit up a notch. Your accessories can be bolder here as long as they elevate the formality of your look.
