You've been coveting the soft, beachy waves sported by super models on runways around the world and you've finally decided to take the plunge. A deep-wave perm will give your hair lasting waves so you can wake up with runway-ready hair every morning. Instead of hitting the salon for a pricey pro job, head to your local beauty supply store and pick up a home perm and a set of rods. Be sure to get big perm rods for deep waves.

1.

Brush your clean, dry hair, then smear petroleum jelly along your hairline. This will prevent perm solution from getting on your skin.

2.

Open the perm kit and check out its contents. Kits include perm solution, neutralizer, plastic gloves, papers and conditioner. Read through the directions so you're in the know.

3.

Divide your hair into three strips; one along the center of your head, one along the left side then one along the right. You'll be rolling the perm section by section, so clip all but one up and out of your way.

4.

Use the tip of your comb to slice out a 2-inch piece of hair from the front of the first section. Fold a paper around the ends. This will protect your tips and prevent them from frying during the perm process. Frizzy tips are not a cute look.

5.

Spritz the paper with water, then place the perm rod along the tip. Roll the hair back away from your face, keeping a tight pressure on the hair as you roll. When you reach the scalp, lock the rod.

6.

Slice out another section, wrap and roll. Continue wrapping and rolling your entire head until you're all rolled up.

7.

Pull on the plastic gloves and arm yourself with the perming solution. Squirt it all over the perm rods, soaking all of your hair. Empty the bottle on your head then allow the solution to process for the instructed amount of time (usually 20 minutes).

8.

Rinse the perm solution from your hair.

9.

Apply neutralizer to each of the perm rods, then allow it to process for the designated amount of time (typically five to eight minutes).

10.

Unroll each of the perm rods, toss the papers then rinse your hair completely. Apply conditioner, then rinse again. Admire those beautiful, bouncy waves.
