Pants to Wear With a Dark Denim Shirt

Wearing denim doesn't just mean rocking jeans. These days denim looks chic on lots of different pieces. Try a dark denim top to be right on trend. Since more of us are used to wearing jeans, it might be a little tough to figure out how to style denim when you wear it up top. Don't fret. There are plenty of ways to make it look amazing.

Keep your look neutral and slip on a pair of khaki pants. Denim and khaki are a natural pairing that always work well together. Your lighter color khakis make a fantastic backdrop for your darker denim piece. Finish off your look with a brown wedge shoe or add a pop of color and try a brightly hued heel instead.

Colorful Shorts

Spice up your look in the spring and summer and opt for a pair of colorful shorts, either in a fun print or a solid color. Go big and bold with bright yellow, teal or red -- or keep it a bit more understated in shades like plum and navy.

Colorful Pants

Colorful pants are just as trendy as denim tops, so try mixing the two trends together. Because denim works with any color, any shade of pants you throw at your top is going to work, so have fun and experiment with lots of different shades. Trousers work just as well as harem pants or cigarette-cut pants. Just make sure to get your proportions right. If you're wearing loose-fitting pants, try a more fitted denim top or tuck your top into your pants.

Denim on denim is perfectly acceptable and can actually be super fashionable if you know how to style it. The key is not to wear the same wash on top as you do on bottom. Opt for a lighter wash denim bottom. Skinny jeans are always a good option. Slip them into a pair of boots to finish off the look. If you prefer a wide-leg jean, tuck your denim shirt in and top the look off with a belt.
