The bomber jacket is a fashion piece comparable to a boomerang; it just keeps on coming back. This isn't a necessarily a bad thing; some things are better the second time around. The short jacket style features an elasticated waist and front zipper and comes in all kinds of styles. Whether a vintage leather number or a lightweight fabric style with edgier details, this is an item of clothing you can have fun with.
Dress It Up
Here's the thing with a leather bomber jacket; a heavier style is functional and will keep you toasty and warm for a leisurely walk in the park on a crisp day. On the other hand, current styles mix up dressy and street. Go for a simple black velour mini dress, black tights or bare legs and high shoes. Throw on a leather bomber with a fleece trim to finish.
Work the Catwalk or a Street Vibe
Bomber jackets have been featured on the catwalk at Givenchy and Balmain and are already being paraded and photographed on celebs Zoe Saldana and Nicole Scherzinger. You can easily pick out a look from Main Street; don a lightweight cotton bomber with sleeves rolled up, worn over a low-line singlet in white; team with shorts for a streety vibe.
Color Your World
Bold, block colors can really amp up a bomber jacket. A fitted bomber in satin looks fab in fashionable brights of orange, yellow, pink, green and blue. Style a block-colored bomber jacket, zipped halfway over a singlet with skinny denim jeans, and high black ankle boots.
Go for the Preppy Look
Work a two-color bomber jacket in blue and white for a hip preppy vibe. A denim skirt or a pair of skinny jeans works well as the base; add a fitted top in a candy color, pink or lemon and throw on the jacket. Roll up the jeans to 3/4 length and slip on some high patent stilettos to rock this look.
