What's wavy, shiny and sexy all over? Your classic and chic old Hollywood updo! To channel your inner Marilyn Monroe, Rita Gardner or Lena Horne, twist and comb your tresses into a feminine and sultry look perfect for holiday parties, formal balls and wedding events. Whether you are a beauty novice or a seasoned hairstylist, you can transform your frazzled medium-length or long locks from blah to beautiful in less than 30 minutes.
Retro Wave Updo
1.
Begin with freshly-washed and dried hair. Heat a 1-inch curling iron to create small crimps in your hair. Starting at the roots, create a small wave in your hair by clamping down the iron on a 2-inch section of hair. Scoot the iron down the length of your hair until you have small waves that are 1 to 2 inches apart.
2.
Create a low ponytail at the nape of your neck. Pull back all of your hair except for a few face-framing pieces. Secure the hair with an elastic hair band. Roll the hair into a small chignon shape and fasten with small hair pins.
3.
Smooth flyways at your hairline with a shine-inducing pomade. Apply a pea-sized amount of pomade to your fingertips before applying it to your temples and the nape of your neck. Mist your hair with a firm-hold hairspray to complete your sexy old Hollywood updo.
Old Hollywood Waves
1.
Curl freshly-washed and dried hair with a 2-inch curling iron. Create long and lush spiral curls all over your head from the hairline to the nape of your neck.
2.
Release the curls gently with your fingers. Pull your hair back into a small bun shape a few inches above the nape of your neck. Secure it with hair pins.
3.
Pull a few side swept curls loose around your face. Add a glittery silver comb to the updo to keep the chignon shape and add sparkle to your evening updo. Set your hair with a strong-hold hairspray.
To smooth curls before styling, run a dollop of styling cream through your hair.
Accessorize your old Hollywood hairdo with glitzy headbands, barrettes and sparkly pearl pins.
