The perfect solution for a hot summer day is a sundress. They can be fun, trendy and even sexy when worn at the right time and the right place. But you certainly shouldn't walk into the club wearing your sundress and a pair of flip-flops. Jenny Feldman says it best in "Glamour" magazine: "Trade in your flip-flops for some strappy heels and --- voila --- it's a sexy going-out look!" When styled appropriately, it's perfectly acceptable to wear a sundress to the "right" club.
Where Are You?
If you are hanging out in Miami, Cancun or on a cruise, then it's not shocking to see a woman in a sexy sundress out at the club. Know your surroundings. If you are at the beach, then by all means wear that sundress you've been dying to show off. Location is key. If you try to walk into an upscale nightclub and show up in a sundress, you may stick out like a woman wearing electric orange shoes. It just doesn't always work.
Rain + Sundress = Bad Idea
For the love of all fashionable clothing, do not wear a sundress anywhere if the weather is not appropriate. If it's 20 degrees, hang that piece back in the closet unless you want to be stuck outside the club shivering while waiting to enter -- you'll be shaking your money maker, but not in a good way. If it's a beautiful, warm, sunny day, then wear a sundress out. You can go from day to night in an instant.
Dress It Up
If you want to wear a sundress out to the club, dress it up. Throw on a pair of sexy heels (leave the flip-flops at home), wear your nighttime makeup and don't forget accessories. Feldman writes, "Three fun bangle bracelets plus one major pair of earrings equals a big style statement." Don't forget to style your hair. A disheveled look that shows people you just walked off the beach doesn't work -- unless of course you are on the beach.
Take Notes
When all else fails, call a friend. Take notes to what everyone else in the group is doing. If you need to call your girlfriend with the familiar question -- "Hey girl, what are you wearing tonight?" -- then do. You definitely don't want to stick out in a bad way. You want to look hot while out with your friends, not like a hot mess. There's a difference.
