Low-cut dresses are always a sexy option. Whether you're off to a party, going on a hot date or posing at a red carpet premiere, this kind of deep neckline is flattering on pretty much anyone. And while many prefer to keep their decolletage bare and uncluttered, sometimes it's just fun to add a little bling with a crazy (or low-key) necklace. Your neck and chest make up a great blank canvas for some serious accessorizing, and lucky for you, there are plenty of options that will go with you and your personal style.
For a light, feminine look, go for a delicate pendant -- or even two. Lauren Conrad at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles paired her low-cut, multicolored, ground-skimming maxi dress with two pendant necklaces that were different lengths. There are a couple of charms on each necklace that are tiny, you just see an intriguing glint of sparkle around her neck. With such a busy pattern on her dress, L.C. knows a busy necklace would be a big fashion don't. For a semi-formal occasion like this, Conrad chose to look summer beachy, and the whimsy of her mismatched necklaces goes perfectly with the airiness of her bright, breezy dress.
Do like singer Rihanna at the Verizon and Blackberry party on Grammy weekend in 2009, where she was photographed in a royal blue, low straight-cut dress that showed plenty of cleavage. To play up the dress, which is bold but remains one monotonous color throughout, she donned a diamond choker necklace with matching diamond earrings. The choker is wider than the average necklace, adding a shot of obvious glam that enhances her edgy, spiked hairstyle and matching metallic eye shadow. Without the right accessories when it comes to an outfit like this, the ensemble as a whole wouldn't be nearly as attention-getting (or envy-inducing).
Long & Layered
On an episode of "Gossip Girl" in 2009, actress Blake Lively sported a very low-cut, blue minidress and oversize, long, faux-layered, silver medallion chain necklace that hit just below her bustline. The necklace's size and design make such a grand statement that it becomes a crucial piece of her outfit rather than a mere accessory. There's really no need for anything else except an understated silver bracelet, stilettos and a simple clutch, and the way the necklace strategically hovers just around Lively's bust really works to emphasize her very perky assets. As they say: If you've got it, flaunt it!
Bib necklaces come in a variety of sizes, and it's best to match one with your body frame, personal style and outfit for the occasion. Tennis pro Serena Williams attended the 2011 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles wearing a hot pink suit dress with plenty of daring cleavage and a radiant, gold bib necklace that lightly wrapped around her neck. The necklace literally looks like droplets of gold drizzling down her neck and is a beautiful option whenever you want to really up the wow factor. Williams is not a petite girl by any means, and wisely chose a strong enough style to go with her kick-butt figure.
