Overview
The exact cause of hair thinning can range from genetics to a poor diet to health problems. Regardless of the cause, the results can make you feel unattractive, self-conscious and like every day is a bad hair day. You don't need to resort to harsh chemicals and expensive hair growth products; you can help the problem by tweaking your everyday routine.
Be Healthy
Eat a healthy diet, drink plenty of water and throw in a multivitamin for good measure. Foods high in antioxidants as well as those high in fiber and protein will keep your hair healthy from the inside out. Some good choices include green veggies, beans, fish, nuts and whole grains. The key is to eat a balanced diet, so you shouldn't eat beans for every meal, for more than just this reason. Staying hydrated will also improve the condition of your hair; you should be drinking at least 64 oz. of water each day. If you have trouble getting all of the nutrients you need from food -- and most of us do -- take a multivitamin daily.
Regular Cuts
Your grandma may have told you that getting regular haircuts makes your hair grow faster, which is just an old wives' tale. However, there are benefits to regular salon appointments. If you have long hair that is thinning, regular trimmings (and even taking a risk and cutting it short) will make you hair look healthier. If short hair isn't for you, consider having your stylist add layers to your long locks. This can give your hair more body and volume and give the illusion that you have thicker hair than you do.
Massage
Scalp massage can help stimulate blood flow and hair follicles as well as remove any oil that may be clogging those follicles. If you can't get anyone else to do it, simply use your fingertips to gently massage your entire scalp for at least 10 minutes each day.
Green Tea
Green tea contains beneficial antioxidants that will help rejuvenate hair growth. Place two green tea bags in 2 cups hot water. Let the teabags sit in the water for several minutes and remove the tea bags. When the tea is cool, put in on your hair and massage it into the scalp. Put a plastic shower cap over your hair, and wait for 15 minutes before rinsing the tea out of your hair. Brew a cup to enjoy as you wait since green tea offers a plethora of health benefits.
