That curly hair of yours needs special pampering to make it shine. Since curls can turn frizzy and poufy when they're dried out, you need a shampoo that's going to get as much moisture into those curls as possible. Make each shampoo session count with a shampoo that's right for your hair type.

Fekkai Advanced Essential Shea Butter Shampoo

If your thick and curly hair is out of control, bigger than life and full of frizz this is the shampoo for you. The shea butter in this formula, recommended by Allure magazine, will moisturize the frizz right out of your hair. It will also help weigh down your hair a bit and make your curls smoother and more defined. This type of shampoo will be too heavy for fine-textured hair, but if your hair is super thick and medium to coarse in texture this could change your hair forever.

Aveda Be Curly Shampoo

Allure magazine recommended this shampoo because it's a rare breed—it removes buildup while it moisturizes. Many products designed for curly hair have heavier creams and silicone in them. These ingredients make your thick, curly hair look tame and smooth, but they can begin to coat the hair over time. This will remove residue and leave your hair feeling lighter and cleaner. This is one of those shampoos that you may want to have in your shower and use once or twice a month as a regular maintenance product.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Shampoo

Loaded with olive oil and silicone, Allure recommended this shampoo as a formula for hair that's dry and frizzy. Curly hair tends to be drier than other hair types of hair, so it needs extra TLC. This shampoo would be great if you put your curly hair through the wringer with heated styling tools and that's starting to take its toll. The added bonus is that when you pump up the moisture factor you also dial down the frizz.

DevaCurl No-Poo

Lastly, Allure magazine gives honorable mention to this sulphate-free shampoo. Sulphate-free shampooing refers to the cleansing and conditioning of naturally curly hair in a method that super-moisturizes curly hair. This shampoo has no sulphates, so there will be no lather during the washing phase. This can take a bit to getting used to for those of us so used to bubbles equating to clean, but you can get your hair clean without the drying effects of sulphates. If your hair is really parched, or you just want your curls to be all they can be, this is the shampoo for you.
