If you've got short nails, you've got a world of nail polish colors at your fingertips. Almost every color, from the lightest of pinks to the deepest of reds, looks right at home on short nails. Although super-long nails can sometimes look over-the-top and gaudy, short nails always look fresh and never go out of style. Even if your nails are bitten down and rough-looking, you can make them look polished with the right color.

Red Nail Polish

When you want your nails to take center stage, paint them a color-rich shade of red. Red polish is ideal for short nails, as it won't look overwhelming like it may on long nails. Vibrant cherry red polish will give your nails a fun, flirty look for date night or weekends. If you seek a more elegant style for a wedding reception or black-tie affair, choose a shade of burgundy or pomegranate red.

Pink Nail Polish

There's a pink nail polish shade to match your every mood and outfit. Sheer, cotton-candy-pink polish will look clean and fresh on short nails, especially when paired with a sassy summer sundress. If you prefer a bolder look, paint your nails a bright pink shade, such as raspberry or watermelon.

Metallic Glitter Nail Polish

A simple way to add a bit of bling to short nails is with glittery nail polish. Although short nails may appear casual-looking, a touch of sparkle will make them special-event-ready. You can wear silver or gold glitter nail polish by itself, or layer it over a color for a customized look.

Black Nail Polish

When you want to channel your inner vixen, brush black polish over your short nails. Black polish is one color that only girls with short nails can wear, as the deep, dark color would make long nails appear witch-like. If jet black is a little too bold for you, look for a polish featuring a hint of purple or blue.

Pastel Nail Polish

If your're a nail-biter, flatter your short, chewed nails with a pastel nail polish color. Lighter colors will draw attention away from uneven nails and rough cuticles. Brush a nude or pastel pink polish on your nails until they grow out and are in better condition. Light-colored polishes also camouflage nicks and chips better than darker polishes, such as red, do.
