Mustard adds zip to your hotdog or burger, but can be your jeans' worst enemy if the bright yellow condiment drips on your lap. If you find yourself faced with a big blob of mustard on your not-so-cheap skinny jeans, don't panic -- strip off your pricey denim an get to work. You can remove that cringe-worthy yellow stain and salvage your designer jeans when you treat them right -- and right away.
Scrape off as much mustard as you can with a butter knife. Blot with paper towels to further remove the mustard. Just be careful not to rub the spot or you'll make it worse. Rinse the spot under cool water working from the backside of the fabric to flush out more of the mustard.
Drizzle heavy-duty liquid laundry detergent onto the front side of the stain. Use your fingers to work the detergent into the spot. Rinse the denim again under cool water.
Mix a solution of all-fabric powdered bleach and cool water into a bucket or the washing machine. Follow the instructions on the box of bleach for specific mixing instructions as this will vary among products. Stick the jeans in the color-safe bleach solution and let them soak overnight.
Take the jeans out of the bleach solution the next day and spray the spot with a laundry pretreatment spray. Wash the jeans as usual.
Make sure all of the mustard is gone before tossing the jeans in the dryer. Drying them with mustard still there will only make the stain more difficult to remove.
It may take more than one attempt to remove the bright yellow mustard stain. If it doesn't come out the first time, repeat the process.
