Even the most beautiful shoulder-length hair can look a little boring day after day. How do you take your hair from blah to beautiful? Add a little star style to your strands with a messy bun. Whether you are attending a semi-formal event or want to look perfect for a first date, give your hair an instant makeover with a marvelously messy bun.
1.
Apply a quarter-sized amount of straightening gel to the palm of your hand. Rake the gel through your freshly washed hair with your fingertips to distribute the product from the roots to the tips.
2.
Divide hair into four separate sections. Keep hair separated with large plastic butterfly clips. Using a large paddle brush and a blow dryer straighten 4- to 5-inch sections of hair.
3.
Finger comb hair into a high ponytail. Secure the high ponytail with an elastic hairband. To give your bun fullness, tease the hair gently in 2-inch sections with a rattail comb.
4.
Twist your ponytail ends once or twice around the base of the bun. Stick the loose ends of the ponytail into the hairband to secure the messy shape.
5.
Stick three or four long hairpins into your messy bun to set the style. Pull out a few layers near the hairline and ears to frame your face. Finish with medium-hold hair spray to set the style.
Hold the hair dryer no more than 3 inches from your scalp when drying to keep hair smooth and straight.
If you prefer spray products over gels, spritz a few pumps of texturizer into your damp strands to create texture and hold before blowing hair dry.
