Unless you're Beyonce, designers aren't exactly falling over themselves to create jeans tailor-made to fit your booty. But if you're a savvy online shopper, you can still score a pretty sweet fit. Knowing your hip size — along with your other measurements — is crucial because you don't have the luxury of trying on your duds. Don't throw a fit if your jeans cramp your style — all it takes is a tape measure to snag the perfect pair.

1.

Strip down to your skivvies. Stand in a comfy stance with your feet together. Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of your hips.

2.

Cinch the tape in front of your body at the hips. If you like the painted-on look, pull the tape snugly. If you want a little give in the hips, wrap the tape measure a little looser. Jot down your hip measurement.

3.

Call upon an old friend — your favorite pair of jeans — to help you out. Lay the jeans on the bed or other flat surface, with the legs together. Place the measuring tape at the hips' widest point and jot down the number, then multiple by 2.

Tips & Tricks

Jeans.com advises to use a tape measure with centimeters for greater accuracy.

Gals with larger hips should wear jeans with a slightly-lower mid-rise to reduce the muffin-top effect.

Select a straight leg or trouser leg fit to help create a leaner, thinner line.
