You don't need a whole lineup of bras to choose from each day, contrary to what your wardrobe seems to tell you. Bras come in all sorts of tempting styles and colors, but few of them are as versatile as they looked when you picked them up in the lingerie department. The everyday staples, plus one or two for special occasions, fit the bill for a majority of your tops.
The Daily Variety
Let's settle this once and for all: you don't need a white bra for everyday use. Although you might think they look appropriate under a see-through white top, the shades never quite mesh, meaning everyone ends up seeing a ghostly outline of your white unmentionable. Instead, pick nude bras for your daily needs, as these blend in better with your skin, making it pair nicely with virtually any color you wear on top. Whether you need one or two of these is up to you. If you opt for just one, make sure you wash it frequently to avoid putting the same sweat and deodorant back on your body every day.
No Strings Attached
Every gal should keep a strapless bra in her wardrobe for shirts and dresses that don't quite fit within the bounds of strappy bras. These can include halter tops, spaghetti strap tank tops, tube tops and racer back tanks. Shirts with wide necklines also fall into this category, especially if you find yourself continually yanking the sleeves back up onto your shoulders. Most strapless bras come with detachable straps, which you can slide onto the bra and wear in place of your daily one.
Give the girls a boost during Pilates class or an intense mountain biking tour with a bra that's up to the challenge. Sports bras generally feature breathable material for dispersing sweat and a wide elastic band around the bottom to keep the twins from jiggling all over the place. You might not think they look as sexy as your other ones, but you'll be glad you're not stopping your activity every five minutes to slip the straps back into place after they've been making out with your sweaty shoulders.
So you've got the casual side of your life covered. Now what about those special occasions when you want to wear the dress with no back? Or how about that snazzy red number with the plunging neckline? If the strapless variety really doesn't cut it, there's a host of exotic alternatives to choose from. You'll find backless bras most ideal when you can't trust how things are going to look between your hair and your tush, although the sticky bust pads might take some getting used to. And if you plan on really vamping things up in the cleavage department, get yourself a U-plunge bra that leaves your decollétage naked from your neck to a few inches above your belly button.
