Tired of not being able to see your bathroom counter? Wasting valuable time searching for a beauty product? It's time to put away the clutter and organize your makeup collection. Not only will a storage system save you time and energy, but it will make changing up your look effortless.
Cool and Collected
The key to storing cosmetics and perfumes correctly is to keep these products away from humidity, moisture and heat. Celebrity makeup artist Sue Devitt recommends storing your makeup and favorite scents in a cool, dry place; avoid the bathroom because of the constant changes in temperature from showers and blow dryers.
Crystal Clear
A great alternative to traditional makeup cases are see-through glass jars, baskets or drawers. You can quickly see what is contained in each, allowing you to complete your routine in minutes rather than hours. Personalized jars or baskets make for great room accents. Group your products by color and type for extra-easy navigation.
Out With the Old
Keeping outdated makeup out of your makeup bag is equally as important as proper storage. Avoid skin irritation or breakouts from using out-of-date products. In general, replace any products that have changed color, consistency or texture. Devitt also suggests writing down the date of purchase on new products so you can take the guessing out of refreshing your collection.
Tools of the Trade
Clean your makeup tools frequently to keep them in top form and bacteria-free. To clean brushes, use a small amount of warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. Squeeze any excess water with a towel and tap a bit to loosen the hairs up and get them in a good position for drying.
