If you didn’t win the fine-skin lottery, sometimes you’ve just got to resort to makeup techniques that can fool people into thinking your skin is poreless perfection. All your pores need is a little extra coverage that helps your skin appear more even, but doesn’t make you feel like you are wearing 10 pounds of makeup. Strike the right balance, and you’ve got a face that’s ready for its close-up.

Skin Primer

Primer is a must when you have large pores because it creates a layer between your skin and makeup. Primer contains special gluelike particles that glide on to make your skin tone look more even. Think of applying primer as putting little covers over the potholes of your pores. This way, your makeup can’t soak into the pores to make them more noticeable. Apply with clean fingers, and allow a minute for the primer to dry on the skin for maximum pore-reducing benefits.

Cream or Cream-to-Powder Foundation

Cream or cream-to-powder foundations can work wonders to achieve poreless-looking skin because they tend to sit on top of the skin instead of soaking in as much as liquid foundations do. They also tend to give off a matte finish, which can be helpful because large pores also contribute to oily skin. Apply this foundation with a sponge to ensure a more even application.

Loose Powder

“Setting” your makeup means keeping it in place, which can be a challenge for larger-pored girls. Because your skin type likely skews more toward oily, your face can start to look oily before you’ve even had your first coffee break. Loose powder can come to the rescue. The powder doesn’t have to be skin-colored, you also can use what’s known as a setting powder, which is translucent in color. If you tend not to wear a lot of foundation, you can apply a light dusting of loose powder before a tinted moisturizer. The powder helps to soak up oil, while the tinted moisturizer adds a hint of color to make your skin tone look more even.

Luminizing Powder

An added bonus to traditional loose powder options is the luminizing powder. These pressed powders contain small amounts of glittering powders that help to put a flawless sheen on your skin. These can be applied throughout the day as a touch-up, or put on as your last makeup step before you head out the door.
