Your jawline is one facial feature with the potential for a number of problems, including crepey, sagging skin, a double chin, acne or even scarring. You're OK with your imperfections for the most part, but you want your makeup to appear flawless so you can really sparkle. Follow some simple makeup tips to camouflage your jawline and help you shine.
Color
One rule of thumb when using makeup to hide multiple chins and other flaws around your jawline, according to celebrity makeup artist Trish McEvoy in "Marie Claire," is to use a darker color than on the rest of your face. The difference in hues shouldn't be startling, but a slight increase in pigment that creates shadows and illusions like the best magician you've ever seen. A subtle application of bronzer along your jawline and under your chin can artfully erase wrinkles, acne and scars, and help your face look slimmer.
Coverage
Common sense may tell you that if you want to hide something on your jawline, you cover it up with several layers of foundation, powder and bronzer. Yet if you pile on the foundation and powder, you're just going to call more attention to yourself with the caked-on makeup. Instead, makeup artist Pat McGrath suggests in "The Telegraph" that you opt for sheer coverage that helps make your flaws invisible. Apply a priming fluid or slightly tinted moisturizer first, before using foundation; this freshens up the skin and gives you a healthy glow. Then use your usual amount of foundation, blending well.
Technique
The whole idea of camouflage is to make whatever's going on around your jawline blend in with the rest of your face and neck. For this reason, it's important to use proper techniques. Dot foundation across your jawline and neck and blend the dots together to form natural coverage. Extend the color at least one-fourth-inch below your jawline to encourage a natural, seamless look. Use a big, fluffy makeup brush for powder and bronzers to promote even coverage without caking.
Slimming Tricks
Employ a variety of other slimming makeup tricks on other areas of your face when you're trying to camouflage your jaw. Accentuate the beauty of your eyes with half-lined eyes -- choose whatever color suits your eye color and skin tone best. Neutral lip color can also keep the attention focused on the upper half of your face.
