Every girl wants smooth facial skin, but you may not realize that a smooth scalp is important, too. As dead scalp skin cells slough off, they may flake and cause dandruff or clog hair follicles. An exfoliating massage will remove the dead cells as well as improve circulation. Forget making an appointment for a costly hair treatment, though -- you can exfoliate your scalp yourself in the comfort of your own home if the skin issues are caused by dandruff or clogged follicles and not a medical condition. An all-natural, homemade exfoliator is your ticket to a smoother scalp.

1.

Blend 2 Tbsp. olive or jojoba oil with 3 Tbsp. brown sugar in a small mixing bowl to create a paste. Add five drops of tea tree oil if your hair is prone to dandruff.

2.

Wet your hair thoroughly. Wash it with your usual shampoo if there are styling products such as hair spray or gel in your hair.

3.

Place a dollop of the scalp exfoliator on your wet hair. Massage it into your scalp with your fingers, using small circular movements, for five minutes.

4.

Rinse your hair with warm water and shampoo. Condition and style your locks as usual.

Things You'll Need

1.Small mixing bowl

3.2 Tbsp. olive or jojoba oil

5.Essential oils (optional)

2.Spoon

4.3 Tbsp. brown sugar

Tips & Tricks

You can scent the exfoliating scrub with five drops of your favorite essential oil, such as lavender, chamomile, orange or lemon if you desire.

If your scalp is bumpy because of a medical condition, such as psoriasis or eczema, it's best to consult your doctor before exfoliating.
