Looping bows, or pinwheel bows as they're more commonly known, can add a touch of whimsy and fantasy to any outfit. Lady Gaga, the style icon for avant garde fashion, uses pinwheel bows in her hair and clothing all the time. The best part about this trend is that you don't have to spend tons of money buying already tied pinwheel bows from the store. They're super easy to make yourself with materials that are easy to get.

Cut out a piece of cardboard that is 4 inches square. Cut a slit in one side that's 1 1/2 inches long and 1/4 inch wide. This is going to be your template for the bow and will make it so much easier to make these sassy bows on your own.

Cut a piece of ribbon that's 20 inches long and wrap it all the way around the cardboard template, slightly overlapping each section of the ribbon with each other. Make sure the slit in the template is to the right.

Paper clip the different layers of ribbon together through the slit in the cardboard template. Make sure to use a big paper clip to make the next few steps easier!

Gently slide the paper clip and ribbon off the template. Be careful not to unwind the ribbon in the process!

Wrap a piece of embroidery floss around the ribbon in the center and tie it tightly. Remove the paper clip from the ribbon. You should now have the basic form of a bow.

Pull the different loops apart slightly to get the pinwheel look.

Hot glue the bow to a hair clip. Voila! You've got a deliciously avant garde bow to pair with any outift.

Tips & Tricks
Instead of gluing the bow onto a hair clip, you can also stitch it onto an item of clothing. The options are wide open!
