Essential oils are derived from plants and give off a lovely scent. They include lavender, rose, sandalwood, orange and almond. Some people believe that they can make you more calm, relaxed and balanced. If you’re struggling with dry unmanageable hair it could be due to the commercial products you’re using, which often contain harsh chemicals. So try making your own shampoo and conditioner with fragrant essential oils at home instead.
Pour about 1/2 cup of a mild liquid soap, like castile soap, into a bottle (about 12 ounces).
Add 1/2 cup of room temperature distilled water.
Add four drops of essential oils in one or more of your favorite scents. For instance, rose and lavender — two drops each.
Use a long spatula to gently fold the essential oils into the soap and water.
Place about 1 cup of distilled water in a clean pot and warm it up a bit.
Drop about 1 or 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil along with about seven drops of liquid vitamin E oil from the bottle into the warmed water. Use less vitamin E if you have a problem with oily hair.
Add four drops of essential oils — again depending on your desired scents.
Whip the homemade conditioner up with an egg beater and then pour it into a bottle.
Adjust the formulas to your liking. Play with the ingredients until you have a mixture that both you and your hair love.
You can also add one egg yolk to the conditioner mixture if you’d like, but you need to keep it refrigerated.
Ask your dermatologist or stylist before using new oils or homemade products on your hair.
