You can't expect to look totally hot when you've got skin that's dry and ashy. This unattractive issue can really get in the way of your game, as it can make you feel less than confident and equally not as sexy, which is a serious no-no. To combat the dry skin problems that African-American gals face, you'll need to use a moisturizer that soothes that dry skin and gets it looking soft and sheen again.
Lightweight Moisturizer
The only thing worse than having dry and ashy skin is lotion that leaves you feeling sticky and gross. To prevent this, go with a lightweight formula that moisturizes dry skin, but doesn't weigh it down. Also look for one that contains SPF, to keep your gorgeous skin safe from the sun.
Vitamin-Containing Lotion
You take your vitamins because they're good for you, right? Well, the same thing applies to your skin. Slathering on lotion that contains vitamins and antioxidants leaves your rich skin nourished and smooth. Look for one that contains vitamin E to really give your parched skin some hydration.
Hyperpigmentation Buster
Women with dark skin are prone to hyperpigmentation, or dark spots on their skin, often caused by acne. It's a pretty safe bet you don't want them busting up your complexion, so look for lotions that send them packing. Such lotions typically lighten the spots and will reduce -- if not remove -- the darkness.
Oil-Free
Since dark skin tends to be on the oily side, it's a good idea to use a moisturizer that is oil-free. Adding more oil to your skin can make it prone to blemishes and just make you feel kind of gross all around. You're even better off if you go with a lotion that helps to control oil. Many are lightweight and kick ash like a champ.
