Years ago, gray slacks and brown shoes might have been frowned upon as not matching -- mostly in the professional world where some people are not exactly fashion-forward. But that has changed. Gray and brown can work as a fashion combination. Pair your slacks and shoes with the right ingredients to pull off a finished look.

The Classic White Button-Up

It’s hard to go wrong with a classic white button-up shirt, but there are times when it’s just a bit too plain. When you’re wearing a pair of gray slacks and brown shoes, a white button-up can bring your look back down to earth and add a little bit of light to an otherwise fairly dark ensemble. Go for something that’s form fitting and keep it tucked; an untucked shirt will make you look sloppy and ruin your put-together look.

Pastel Pink

You might be afraid of looking like an Easter egg if you wear pastels. But, with a pair of gray slacks and brown shoes, your look will balance out. A pastel pink button-up is perfect for the office, but if you’re going for something more casual, consider something short sleeved. Throw on a cardigan or blazer over the top if you get cold in the evening.

Brighten It Up

If you feel like gray slacks with brown shoes are a bit drab, put on something bright to bring your look to life. A yellow scarf or one with a bright stripe of color can add a little pizzazz without making you look silly.

Choose the Right Accessories

A watch with a brown leather band and silver face will really set your look off as well, especially in professional settings where you don’t need to bring out the bling. If you’re carrying a small handbag, go for something with a bit of color if you’re feeling bold – otherwise, brown is an obvious choice.
