If life gives you lemons, make perfume! This sunny citrus fruit can make your lips pucker and give those mouthwatering desserts a touch of tang, but it's also a perfect ingredient for creating a cool, soothing fragrance that will keep your thirsty skin in check. It was the signature scent of the '70s and like all trends, lemons are making a comeback. Get juicing.

Aim for the Tart Treat

Feeling down and drab? Consider getting a boost of much-needed energy with a hint of lemon! Fragrances featuring this fruit as a note are often used to awaken skin. And while it may not be a typical perfume to wear, lemon notes can be worn anytime of the day with ease. According to Australian-based perfumer Ambrosia, who's been studying natural scents for 20 years, a lemon-infused aroma is the perfect pick-me-up when dealing with the cubicle blues. "Lemon fragrances are wonderful to wear during the day," explains Ambrosia. "They are usually light, fresh, and unobtrusive, making them a great choice for a scent to wear for work. You won't overwhelm or upset your perfume-sensitive colleagues." Ambrosia notes that lemons are often used in unisex colognes, which means that both men and women will appreciate it. Just make sure you don't use lemon oil alone as it can severely irritate skin.

Feel Refreshed and Rejuvenated

The sun is blazing, the heat is sizzling and the humidity is putting you in a fritz. Need to cool down without doing a sweaty striptease? Create a body mist that features lemons. Not only are lemons zesty and-lip smacking good, but they can also be used to feel refreshed and rejuvenated. When you're feeling just too steamy, Becky Sturm, CEO/Founder of StormSister Spatique Beauty Shop in Minnesota, recommends creating your own signature fragrance. "Lemon is a crisp summer fragrance that can be worn at any pulse point," explains Sturm. "You can add 100 percent essential oil of lemon to any atomizer of distilled water and use it as an all-over body spray and facial toner on a hot day. It can also be used as a deodorant. Essential oil of lemon is a natural anti-bacterial."

Pick the Right Scent and Curb Cravings

Many fashionistas have a sweet tooth, but who wants to smell like a bakery all day? Lemons are a wonderfully delicious alternative to wearing anything that's inspired by your favorite dessert. Many fragrances for women incorporate lemon to create the mouthwatering scent of juicy slices sprinkled with sugar, creamy meringue pie or sparkling lemonade. The key is investigating the other notes your fragrance features. To balance out a candied perfume, make sure it includes other ingredients such as sensual musk, earthy oak moss or even spicy bergamot. Not only will this tone down a dessert fragrance's too strong elements, but it will make it more tolerable to use even after your cravings are long gone.

Smell Retrotastic

There are some trends from the '70s that many won't want to bring back (does disco ring a bell?), but one flashback we won't mind having are lemon-scented perfumes. Maybe it was those Studio 54 parties or simply Saturday Night Fever, but there seems to be a sudden interest of fragrances for women featuring invigorating, skin-quenching lemon. Vintage bottles, such as Skinny Dip, Love's Fresh Lemon, Aqua Citra or Love Lemon are just a few of the many scents worn by dancing queens during their heydays. Now that flowy printed skirts and maxi dresses are in high demand all over again, add some extra vintage flair to your look by spritzing on one of these classic perfumes. While they may not be as easily accessible at your local boutique, you can score them on the cheap with Ebay.
