If hot oil treatments and deep conditioning don't make your African American hair as soft as you want, don't despair. The new hair secret -- overnight conditioning -- saturates black curls with moisture while you sleep, for a mane that's soft and smooth. Overnight condition your locks at least once a week. You can still incorporate your fave leave-in conditioner and other styling products that control and moisten curls for a mega-hydration boost to your mane.
1.
Hop in the shower late at night and wash your hair with your fave shampoo. Rinse.
2.
Coat your locks with your fave conditioner, still in the shower. Hop out of the shower with the conditioner still in.
3.
Wrap your locks in a hair towel to keep the conditioner in your mane while you sleep, or slip a shower cap on your head.
4.
Rinse out your conditioner in the morning in the shower and enjoy soft curls.
You can also spritz your locks with an overnight conditioning spray just before bed. If you opt for this, skip the wash but do wrap your mane to protect your pillow and face from the conditioner residue. Wash the product out in the morning.
