The little black dress is one of every girl's favorite wardrobe items because not only is it slimming and sexy without being over the top, but also it's the most versatile dress you could ever own. LBDs come in every different shape and style, but if you're looking to find the perfect sweater to wear over it, you've got lots of options.

Boyfriend Sweater

Make your little black dress a bit more casual by wearing a boyfriend sweater -- a button-up sweater with a masculine cut and larger fit -- over it. This look is perfect for a cotton LBD that you want to wear during the day or to a bar, for example. To tie the look together, you can also belt the boyfriend sweater over the dress at the waist, which will accentuate your lovely waist!

Cardigan

The cardigan is the easy solution to any sweater problem! Choose a chic color, a printed cardigan or even black to rock over your LBD. This sweater won't detract from the feel of your dress, whether it's fancy or casual, but will keep you warm and add some depth to you outfit. Lucky magazine suggests wearing two cardigans at a time! They write, "Trim, '50s-ish sweaters come off as cool and hipsterish when you wear two at a time. To keep the silhouette streamlined, go for middle-to-lightweight (but not sheer) versions that are cut on the slender side. Contrast trims and prints for an arty effect." This would look very fashion-forward over your LBD.

Draped Sweater

Draped sweaters are cardigan-esque alternatives with an open, draped front that doesn't button. These have a gorgeous feminine look; if you're looking to add some volume to your ensemble, this is a fabulous choice. If you want to close this sweater around you, belt it at your waist.

Pullover Sweater

A knit pullover sweater over your little black dress can turn your outfit into a whole new look! If you aren't dead set on wearing your LBD as a dress alone, create a faux skirt and top look by wearing a full knit over it. Be wary of proportions here. This will look best if your dress's skirt is fuller and has the appearance of a separate.
