A boatneck is an especially high neckline that goes up to the base of your neck. It's wide too, ending at the tips of your shoulders. Some women think they're difficult to wear or accessorize, but you don't have to be one of them. Provided you know the right necklaces to pair with a boatneck, you'll be utilizing this chic piece perfectly every time.
Go Long (Sort of)
In general, you want long rather than short with a boat neckline. Why? Because in this getup very little of your neck is showing, so something like a choker is going to practically make it disappear. Not good for your overall look. While you don't have to sport something that's down to your navel, a good rule of thumb is to stick to chains that are 20-inches and longer.
You'll never go wrong with a pendant necklace and a boatneck dress. The reason being that a pendant draws the eye up and down in, with an attractive V-shape that's feminine and makes you look longer. Can't argue with that. It's up to you whether you want the pendant to be bold and eye-catching or simple and understated.
Pearls or Chains
Layering necklaces always adds a touch of drama and edge. Layering strings of pearls is a throwback to the roaring '20s, a la Coco Chanel. Layering it up with a touch of metal adds an edgy vibe. Just keep in mind that the longer the length you go, the more modestly busted you should be. Long ropes and chains hang awkwardly against large chests; if you have one, it's best not to let the necklaces go past the edge.
Make a Statement
A statement necklace looks good on any kind of chest, mostly because it's usually bib length. If you have a solid-colored boatneck dress, you need to have at least one statement necklace. Not sure what it is? Think of it as the equivalent of a cocktail ring on your neck. Bold, colorful, thick and eye catching, the boatneck is the perfect canvas for it.
