You have an event to go to and the perfect dress to wear to it: a loose, sequined number. But there’s just one problem -- the dress is too see-through or your legs are too pale or it’s just an inch on the short side. If you’re experiencing one or all of these issues, there is a solution: leggings. When worn the right way, they can flatter you without taking away from your shiny dress.
Double Knits
Every girl could use some extra help from double-knit leggings. They are slightly thicker than ordinary leggings , but shouldn’t add too much bulk to your legs. Instead, they will help to conceal any unwanted bulges, smoothing your stomach or butt. You can even opt for a pair of control-top leggings that have a little extra Spandex to help you appear thinner.
Color Choice
While basic black is a universally flattering legging choice, it isn’t your only one. The only key when wearing a loose sequin dress is to keep your legging color choice a dark one. Use the same color rules you use for matching your outfits. This means a gold sequin dress would look great with brown, black or navy leggings. To create a long line, pair a colored sequined dress with a matching color: pair light blue sequin dress with navy leggings or a lavender sequined one with deep purple leggings.
Matte
Leggings aren’t the same thing as tights -- they don’t have feet (and please don’t wear the ones with stirrups) and they shouldn’t be see-through. Look for matte, opaque leggings to pair with your sequin dress. Leggings are your accessory, not something meant to take away from your already fabulous outfit.
What Not to Wear
Since you’re already going shiny with your sequin dress, the last thing you want to do is choose leggings that are shiny, too. This means skipping the glittery leggings or ones that have metallic threads woven into them. Unless you have stick-like legs and actually want to make them look larger, shiny-fabric leggings aren’t going to flatter you, and they can take attention away from your festive dress. Another key is to wear the right shoes with your leggings. Finish the look with flats, boots or a shoe with a low heel.
