Coordinating your outfit with your shoes is one of the most important steps when you're putting together your look for the day. This is especially true with a cool, classic pair of shoes, such as boat shoes. Even if you're not lucky enough to be spending your weekend sailing on a yacht, boat shoes look preppy and stylish anytime. You want to show them off and that means picking the proper pants. Choose the right style of jeans so you can show off your boat shoes in all their glory.
Skinny
Skinny jeans are the most tapered style of jeans, so they work really well for showing off a pair of boat shoes. Skinny jeans are fitted all the way down the leg, showing off your figure and making your shoes the main focus. Even if you don't enjoy the super-tight squeeze in your skinny jeans, many brands offer skinny jeans that are more accommodating and aren't so, well, skinny. Or, opt for a men's pair of skinnies, which has a bit more room at the waist and in the legs.
Bootcut
Bootcut jeans flare out slightly at the bottom, but the largest part of the leg is still quite slim. These pants are perfect for showing off a pair of boat shoes. Go with a dark wash to keep your look more formal, and get the right length so you don't look like you're either waiting for a flood or drowning in your clothes. The longest part of your pants should hit around mid-heel on your shoes.
Boyfriend
Boyfriend jeans have a looser fit -- the point being that they're supposed to look like you're wearing your boyfriend's jeans -- so they create a casual-chic look. With a plain tee or tank top and blazer, you have an ensemble that's really on-point if you're trying for a prep-princess style. For a really trendy and chic look, roll the cuff up a couple of times on the legs of your pants before heading out.
Wide-Leg
Although wide-leg jeans are quite wide through the leg and cover up a fair bit of your shoes, as long as you get the right length of pants for your body, you can still show off your boat shoes. There are other advantages to the pants, as well; the single width all the way down your leg creates a long leg line and slims over any bulges, so your legs look long and lean.
Tips
You can go barefoot in your boat shoes or wear socks with them. This is often an area of confusion for girlies sporting this type of shoe, but in the end it's really a matter of personal preference. The only thing you really want to avoid is wearing your socks too high, so keep them slouched down rather than pulled up to your knees, OK?
