What Kind of Clothes Should Women With Big Breasts Wear?

Big-busted girls should choose styles that flatter.

Whether you're curvy all over or just well endowed on top, getting dressed when you have big breasts can be a little tricky. Clothes that drape elegantly on a small-chested model can pull and bunch on busty gals, but when you make the right wardrobe choices, your clothes can make your curves the envy of every girl in the room.

Tops

Fitted tops are the most flattering to big busts, but steer clear of anything that's too tight, since you don't want any accidental peek-a-boo action. Look for tops that taper at the waist -- boxy or loose shirts can make you look heavier than you really are. If you're buying a shirt that buttons, choose one made of cotton, linen or silk -- these fabrics won't stretch and leave gaps around buttons the way jersey and spandex blends can. V-shaped or square necklines will flatter your shape best.

Dresses

Skip slinky spaghetti straps or keyhole necklines, which won't give your chest the support it needs. Instead, opt for dress with a defined waist or empire waist for the most flattering fit, recommends "Shape" fashion editor Jacqui Stafford on the "Today" show. If you're buying a strappy dress, make sure the straps are substantial enough to completely cover your bra straps. Avoid straight dresses that skim your waist or heavy detailing around your bust -- both of these can make you look heavy.

Swimsuits

A supportive underwire is your best friend when you're shopping for a swimsuit to support your curves. Though you may gravitate toward one-piece suits, a two-piece may be a better option since you can mix and match sizes on top and bottom to fit your curves. If you go with a one-piece, look for one that has built-in cups or support structure for your breasts.

Underneath

More important than anything you wear on top is what you wear underneath. Without a supportive bra, none of your clothes are going to look the way you want them to, so invest in a bra that lifts your chest so you can stand up straight and all your clothes will fit better. Finding the right bra can be challenging for busty girls, so enlist help from a professional fitter at a department or lingerie store.
