1.
Put on the pair of shoes you want to wear and slip the pair of galoshes over your shoes. Tuck your pants (if applicable) into the galoshes to keep the legs dry.
2.
Fasten the tabs (if equipped) on the galoshes to tighten the shaft so that no water can get into the boot. The tabs could be Velcro or buckle style.
3.
Wear the galoshes over your shoes until you reach your indoor destination. Loosen the tabs, remove them, and place them aside. Put the galoshes back on before you go outdoors again to keep your shoes dry.
When buying galoshes, tell the salesperson what size foot you have, and ask what size galoshes you should purchase to wear them over shoes. Just like shoes, galoshes may run smaller or larger than the actual size.
Pick a pair of galoshes that is the right height for the weather conditions in your area. For light, rainy conditions, you may be able to wear a pair of galoshes that are ankle length and still protect your shoes. For conditions where deep rain puddles accumulate, a knee-height boot is the better choice to protect your shoes.
If you like to wear high heels, there are special galoshes available.
Try to buy the galoshes at a brick-and-mortar store (instead of ordering online) to ensure that you get the right fit over your shoes. If you are planning on wearing bulky shoes under the galoshes, take them along to try underneath the boots before you buy them to ensure they will fit.
