Jojoba Oil vs. Almond Oil for Makeup Remover

Overview

At the end of the day, nothing's better than a clean makeup-free face. If your skin's sensitive, chances are you're not a big fan of the chemical cocktails better known as commercial makeup removers. Natural oils, like jojoba and almond oil, do a wonderful job of wiping away unwanted makeup and they are gentle on your face. Deciding which one to choose is a matter of preference, however there are some minor differences that make them worthy of note.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is a versatile type of oil that's made from sweet almond kernels (that's why it's also known sweet almond oil). When it comes to removing makeup from your face, almond oil can easily and safely swipe it away without clogging up your pores. It can even be used to remove the makeup from your ever-so-delicate eye area. If you're a member of the do-it-yourself beauty crowd, almond oil can even be mixed with other ingredients, such as whole milk, to create a gentle, custom remover. While it's clearing away unwanted makeup, it's also leaving treating your face to a little TLC. That's because it contains a significant amount of vitamins, such as vitamin E and A. Almond oil also contains fatty acids that are also nutritious for the skin. However, if you're a girl with nut allergies, steer clear of this nut-based oil.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil, like almond oil, is extremely versatile and can be used to remove makeup even from your tender eye area. While it is called an oil, it is actually a liquid wax that comes from the jojoba seed. When using jojoba oil, your skin's getting a treat every time you take off your makeup. That's because it's rich in vitamin E and also contains significant amounts of essential fatty acids. It won't clog up pores and is free of allergens. A stand-out trait of jojoba oil is that it mimics the skin's natural oil, sebum. This makes it highly suitable for ladies who suffer from acne or oily skin. Adding oil to oily skin may sound like a no-no, but because it's so similar to sebum it can actually help balance out any excess production. It does that by tricking the skin into believing that it's already producing enough sebum.

Skin Types

You can't forget skin type when comparing jojoba oil versus almond oil. Both are generally considered suitable for all skin types, however they each are more "suitable" for some types more than others. Almond oil for example, is an emollient and is particularly well suited for removing makeup from drier skin types. Jojoba oil is highly beneficial for women with oilier or acne prone skin.

Cost

Almond oil is fairly inexpensive, which is ideal if you're just trying it out as a makeup remover. Jojoba oil is more expensive, however in the long run it maybe the cheaper option. That's because jojoba oil can last indefinitely without going rancid (as long as it's stored properly that is). Purchase almond oil and the clock's ticking. After 12 months, you'll need to spend more money and buy it again.
