So, you've decided to go with a fabulous rich black hue for your hair. Not only is it going to make your look more dramatic and somewhat mysterious, but it's also not as unhealthy for your hair as, say, bleaching it to a blond hue. However, when it comes to black hair dye, not all colors are created the same. You've got a choice to make. Take it to the extreme with a jet black hair hue, or go with a softer but sassy blue black.
Difference Between the Two
Jet black is just that -- a super-dark shade of hair with no other obvious tones to it. By comparison, blue black has undertones of blue in it to cool off the hue a bit, making it look a lot less heavy. Choosing between the two is more than a matter of personal preference; you also need to consider the current cut of your hair as well as your personal style in terms of how much you play with different hair looks.
Choosing Jet Black
This might seem odd, but if you have light eyes or delicate porcelain skin, then jet black is actually a perfect fit for you. Think Katy Perry, whose jet black tresses make her skin look extra creamy and her bright blue eyes pop even more. Jet black is also a good option for darker skin tones, as it makes darker skin look even more velvety and smooth.
Choosing Blue Black
If you've got a ton of hair and it doesn't have many layers to it, then blue black is going to make it look much less heavy. If you've got fairly warm undertones to your skin -- think light tan skin or even a caramel complexion -- then blue black might be a good option for you as well, providing some much-needed balance between the color of your hair and your skin.
Take a Test Drive
Before you dye your entire head of hair, do a test on just a few strands to see which color you prefer. While it might make sense to do one or the other based on your skin tone, you might find that you have a preference just based on how the different black dyes look against your specific skin. If you find that jet black washes you out a bit, then try a blue black, or even a brown black if you find neither option works for you.
