In recent years fashionistas have had reason to rejoice: Flats have become such incredibly chic footwear that you won't mind trading in your 6-inch heels a little more frequently than usual. One of the best things to pair your flats with is a great pair of jeans that flatter your figure and can easily fit into your existing wardrobe. However, certain jeans look better with flats than others.
Denim Washes and Flat Styles
Certain washes of denim look best with certain types of flats, just like the jeans themselves. For work or for evening, dark denim is favored: It looks appropriate for the office, and elegant and dressy for a night out. Pair your dark denims with flats in bright, bold colors: It provides a lovely contrast that is not only on trend but timelessly chic. For all you light-wash denim lovers, bring out your white, medium and light-wash jeans for weekends and daytime activities. Light-colored denim can be a little tricky, so be careful adding bright colors, and stick to flats that have detail and embellishments to contrast with a fair hue. Try flats with buckles, laces, straps and bows to amp up your light-wash jeans.
Arguably the favorite jean style to wear with flats is the popular skinny jean. It looks fabulous with flats because it can seamlessly go from day to evening with just an addition or subtraction of a few accessories. There are many types of skinny jeans, and practically any style works with flats. Skinnies with zippers and buttons are cool because they add a little rock star flair to flats, which can sometimes come across as delicate depending on style and color. Speaking of color, colored skinny jeans are one of the hottest trends, and they look fierce with a pair of your favorite flats. Go for a monochromatic look with your jeans and flats the same color, or mix and match things up and play with color and texture.
Show off those sexy ankles with a pair of cuffed jeans and flats. This match-up works well because you are giving equal attention to the shoes and the jeans. One of the best things about cuffed jeans is that they can be rolled to your liking whether you prefer a wider or more narrow cuff. Big cuffs call for a bolder statement with your shoes. Look for styles big on color, details and embellishments. For a smaller cuff, try a shoe in a muted color, but with details that call attention to the ankles, such as straps or classic laces.
Essentially the same style as the cuff, but with a more streamlined look, capris are perfect for spring. Capris and flats go all the way back to the 1950s and 1960s when they were worn with kitten heels, canvas sneakers or ballet flats. It's a carefree look best suited for casual daytime activities. Spring and summer are the best time for capris in light, pastel shades. Balance the sweetness of your pastel capris by pairing them with dark flats for fabulously chic contrast.
