If you're an apple shape, it means that you have a fuller midsection and bust, while your arms and legs tend to be slimmer. There are definitely many styles out there that will work for your lovely body type. Flattering your midsection and showcasing your legs are often desirable factors. If you ever feel discouraged, don't. Just look at all of the other apple shapes out there: Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon and Catherine Zeta Jones. See? You're in good company.
It's not only uncomfortable when you constantly feel your denim waistband digging into your stomach; it can also be downright painful. Stretch pants are often much more forgiving in the waist, while showing off those legs with the tighter fit all the way down. Stretchy "jeggings" can range from 2% spandex to 20%, so don't be afraid to experiment with what feels most comfortable. Try the Gummy Jean Legging by 7 For All Mankind (2% spandex), the Denim Legging by AG Adriano Goldschmied (2% elastane) or the Secret Siren Legging Jean by Victoria's Secret (21% spandex). The latter is recommended by the fashion experts at "Shape Magazine."
Higher Waist & Wider Waistband
Although low-rise jeans may have once been very trendy, higher waistlines are now back in style. The higher the waistline, the more midsection it can keep under control. A wide-leg trouser jean is effortlessly chic, and it'll flatter your upper half while elongating your lower half. Try the Muse High Waist Boot Cut by Joe's Jeans, the Stella High Waist Trouser Jean by Anlo or the High Waist Boot Cut Jean by 7 For All Mankind.
To balance out your apple shape, try a bootleg or a subtle flare. These will create a clean, long line all the way down to your feet. Baggier jeans that are loose around the stomach and loose around the leg will be very unflattering, while skinny jeans and other pants that taper at the bottom will only accentuate your fullness up top. Skinnies are best for you when tucked into fuller boots. Try the Laguna Boot Cut Jean by Paige Denim, the Reboot Skinny Boot Cut Jean by James Jeans or the Fuller Waist Boot Cut 590 Jean by Levi's. The Levi's brand specifically advertises the pant as fit for "women with a fuller waist and narrower hip" which is perfect for apple shapes.
You're lucky that, as an apple shape, you can actually pull off both darker-colored and lighter-colored jeans. While other body types attempt to flatter the leg and prefer to go for darker colors most of the time, you will look just fine donning lighter washes. So from pitch black denim to pale and distressed, feel free to try a wide range of colors. Try the Hi Rise Flare Jean by Rich & Skinny in pale blue "Outback," the Amber Mid Rise Boot Cut Jean by Citizens of Humanity in "Santorini White" or the Mid Rise Signature Boot Cut Jean by Hudson in a very dark "St. Martin."
