Get your hypoallergenic makeup on the cheap at your local drugstore.

You don't have to head any further than your nearest drugstore for good hypoallergenic makeup options. You'll find a variety of cosmetics on the bargain end that claim to be allergy-friendly. According to, the term "hypoallergenic" means that manufacturers have voluntarily left out the most common problem-causing ingredients, such as fragrance, preservatives including parabens and certain waxes and fats such as lanolin and cocoa butter. The label is no guarantee that you won't have a reaction, so double-check the ingredients list.


If you have sensitive, breakout-prone skin, finding a foundation that is not just hypoallergenic but also noncomedogenic -- that is, it won't clog your pores -- is a must. You might give a mineral foundation a spin. recommends Physician's Formula Mineral Wear. Meanwhile, BareEcsentuals BareMinerals foundation has won awards from "Glamour," "Allure," "InStyle" and "Seventeen."


Eyes can be especially sensitive to allergens, so take special care when choosing eye shadow, liner and mascara. For lashes, you can't beat Almay's Intense i-Color Mascara. Almay's entire cosmetic line is specifically formulated to be hypoallergenic, so check out their eye shadow and liner, too. Another brand to try is Physician’s Formula. "InStyle" loves their Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Gel Cream Liner in particular.


So many lipsticks, so little time! So here's some good news. Many lipsticks produced by drugstore mainstay Cover Girl are hypoallergenic. Just look for the Queen Collection. If you'd like to add a touch of gloss, "Good Housekeeping" recommends Yes to Carrots C Me Shine Lip Gloss, an all-natural gloss stick based on castor oil.

Skin Care

Good skin care can help lessen your skin's sensitivity to irritation, so don't neglect your moisturizing underlayer before donning makeup. Cetaphil, which is fragrance-free and noncomedogenic, is a favorite of "Real Simple" and a member of the "Allure" Best of Beauty Hall of Fame.
