African-American hair has special needs and wants, so cater to it carefully to make it rock. With a few key styling tools, you can ease your hair into sexy, smooth styles. Using a hot air brush on African-American hair combines a blow dryer and round brush, making it easy to coax your strands into sleek obedience.

Hot Air Brushes

With a hot air brush in your hand, you simplify the process of drying and straightening your hair. Plug it in, turn it on and you’re ready to dry and shape your hair at the same time. The hot air brush blows gentle warm air through the rounded bristles, helping you wield this tool expertly to create the hairstyles you want.

Set Up Your Hair

Mix up a powerful cocktail of products to get your hair ready for the hot air brush. Combine equal parts of leave-in conditioner and thermal styling lotion in your palm and work it through your locks from roots to tips. This will help moisturize your tresses and protect them from the heat of the appliance.

Styling Suggestions

Let your hair air dry after applying the products to minimize the heat styling as much as possible. After your hair dries about halfway, it’s time to finish it up with the hot air brush. Separate your hair by clipping back the top half. Pull a 1-inch section of hair in the lower section away from your head and comb it smooth. With the hot air brush on low, wind your hair carefully around the brush starting at the tips and working up toward your scalp. Keep rotating the brush to move your hair around it and your hair will dry in a sleek and rounded shape. Dry all the hair in the lower section this way and then move on to the top section of hair to finish.

Keep it Gorge

Squeeze a smidgen of liquid silicone into the palm of one hand and coat your hands evenly. Brush your hands lightly over your dry hair to add shine and calm any frizzies. Arrange your hair gently with your hands or a brush, but don’t mess with it too much or you could create frizz. After creating the style you want, spritz on a finishing spray.
