Homemade Turmeric Facial Scrub

Indian spices are yummy in food, and even better in your beauty routine.

You probably get a little lost while wandering the skin care aisle at your local drugstore. There are tons of skin treatments out there, and they run the gamut from gorgeous to just plain gooey. Try staying home for your skin care -- beautiful skin might be as close as your spice rack. Add a little turmeric -- a skin-soothing spice with brightening and toning properties -- to your homemade skin care recipes. Start mixing and get that skin glowing!

Indian Food Facial

This facial might sound more like a dinner recipe, but it's thought to perk up a dull complexion. Mix 1 tsp. chickpea flour, 1 tsp. turmeric powder and 1 tbsp. milk. Whisk with a fork until the ingredients form a creamy paste. Spread the mixture over clean, dry skin and let the mask dry for 10 minutes. Wash with warm water and your usual facial cleanser, then finish with a moisturizing face cream.

Glowing Skin Mask

This concoction may sound bizarre, but it can be used on both face and body to leave skin glowing and exfoliated. To make this face mask, mix 2 tbsp. turmeric powder, 1 tbsp. garbanzo bean flour and 2 tbsp. almond oil. Stir until the mixture is creamy, then apply to dry skin. Massage with your fingers gently in a circular motion. Let the mask soak in for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water. To make a body treatment, double the recipe.

Honey-Turmeric Oat Scrub

Smooth skin is a beautiful thing, and the exfoliants and antioxidants in this mask can make your skin oh-so-soft. Mix 2 tbsp. turmeric powder, 2 tbsp. honey and 2 tbsp. plain steel-cut oats in a microwavable bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, stirring halfway through to prevent hot spots. Apply the mixture to dry skin and massage gently for two minutes. Let the mask dry for 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

Creamy Turmeric Mask

While turmeric brightens and tones skin, the protein in yogurt can moisturize and improve skin elasticity. Mix 1 tsp. turmeric powder, 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tbsp. honey and 1/2 cup oat flour. Stir until the ingredients are creamy and lump-free. Spread the mask on clean, dry skin and let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing clean with warm water.
