Beauty Myth no. 252: Only dry skin needs a daily moisturizer. In fact, all skin types benefit from a post-cleanse butter or balm. But finding a formula that suits combination skin isn't always easy. Harsh oil-absorbing chemicals aggravate sensitive skin, literally leaving you red in the face. For true natural beauty, create your own homemade moisturizer. Choose nourishing ingredients guaranteed to soothe, smooth and satisfy even the pickiest complexion.

Luxurious Lemon-Aid Lotion

Forget lemonade: When life gives you lemons, make a luscious lemon face lotion. Cut one fresh lemon in half. Blend it at high speed with 1 tbsp. plain Greek-style yogurt and 1 tsp. almond oil. Mildly astringent lemons absorb acne-causing germs and oil while yogurt sloughs away pore-clogging dirt and grime. Gently massage the cream into clean skin.

Peach Dream Cold Cream

Dissolve 1/4 tsp. Borax soap powder in 1 tbsp. warm distilled water, then stir in 1 tbsp. nutrient-rich peach juice. In a separate container, microwave 1. grated beeswax and 1/4 cup peach kernel oil for one minute. Combine all ingredients and blend on high speed.

Honeybee Moisturizer

Put your freshest face forward with 1/2 cup distilled water, 2 tsp. vegetable glycerin and five drops lemon essential oil. Light plant-based oils absorb quickly into sensitive skin, smoothing away fine lines and wrinkles without causing breakouts. For extra oomph, add 1 tbsp. raw unrefined honey; the natural antibacterial destroys acne-causing germs and locks moisture into your skin.

Essential Oils

Exotic essential oils are ideal for healing sun or wind-damaged skin. Pamper your pores with 1 tbsp. organic rose hip oil, 1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil and 1 tbsp. organic aloe vera juice. Stir in one drop skin-soothing chamomile essential oil, two drops calendula essential oil and one drop comfrey essential oil for a spa-worthy experience.

Fresh and Fruity Grapefruit Soother

Make fine lines a thing of the past with 1 tbsp. exfoliating cottage cheese, 1/2 skin-firming egg yolk, 1 tbsp. hydrating honey and 1 tbsp. unsalted butter. Blend into a smooth paste, then add 1 tbsp. grapefruit juice and blend for another 30 seconds. Spread the mixture evenly across your face and neck.
