The "Hipster Handbook" defines hipster as, "one who possesses tastes, social attitudes, and opinions deemed cool by the cool." This basically means styles sported by fashion-forward youngsters on the cutting edge. Just because most hipsters are in their early 20s and 30s doesn't mean you can't be a little older and rock the same style. Hipsters in 2011 tend to rock bottoms on the skinnier end of the spectrum. Retro pants with a major '80s vibe are also considered super hipster. No matter what your age, size or shape there's a pair of hipster bottoms that you can sport with swagger.
Skinny Jeans
Skinny jeans are hipster must-haves. These super slim bottoms fit like a second skin. They come in long and cropped versions and in a bevy of colors from classic denim shades to wild neon choices. Any woman can rock a skinny jean. You just have to pair them with the right top or shoes. Gals who feel self conscious about their hips and derriere should pair skinny jeans with a long sweater. Those with shorter legs should try matching these super slim bottoms with a wedge or a heel.
Jeggings
Jeggings are a great alternative to a skinny jean. The term "jegging" refers to a pair of jeans that fit like a legging. Unlike a skinny jean, a jegging has spandex woven into the denim to give these skintight bottoms loads of stretch. You'll find five-pocket jeggings as well as those sans pockets. Jeggings are great to pair with boots thanks to their second skin fit. These comfy bottoms come in various denim versions as well as solid colors and patterns.
Harem Pants
Harem pants are definitely a major throwback to the late '80s. Back in the day harem pants invoked thoughts of wild prints and MC Hammer. The latest version is a little more upscale. Made of flowing fabrics such as silk or jersey, these drop crotch pants are loose to around the knee before tapering into a legging and ending somewhere around mid-calf. The upside is these comfy pants hide any flaws around your nether region. The downside is they have a tendency to look a little silly and are best for those gals who love to take a fashion risk.
High Waisted Denim
While harem pants give your look a definitive late '80s vibe, a skinny or wide legged high waisted jean definitely brings out your '70s side. The waistline on these babies hits right up at your rib cage. Pick a pair with a standard zip front, or try rocking a sailor style with a front button flap. This style looks especially sweet on curvy girls and ladies with slim waists.
