If you love a ponytail but don't want to pull all your hair back, try a half-ponytail hairstyle. Half-pony styles look fab for dressier occasions but also totally work during the day. Learn a few different cool, fashionable ways that you can sport a half-ponytail style and rock your hybrid hair look.
Keep It Simple
If you don't want to go too over the top, wear a simple half-ponytail style. Part hair horizontally from the top of one ear to the other. Brush hair back and secure the top half with a rubber band. Take a note from Lauren Conrad and add a subtle accent to your pony by leaving one strand of hair free, to wrap around the elastic base of your ponytail. Secure it with a bobby pin or two and you're all set.
Make It Messy
Intentionally messy styles not only look totally on trend, but also they are a great way to give that "I look totally chic without even trying" vibe. Try this loopy-ponytail half-up look. Spray hair with texturizer and pull the top half of your hair back with a flat brush. Twist this section of hair and pull it back into a loose ponytail, keeping the ends of the hair tucked in. If you want your look to be even more relaxed, skip pulling your locks into an elastic band and opt for bobby pins to secure your half-up pony.
Make It Fancy
Try this version of Kate Beckinsale's creative loopy ponytail. Kate wore hers completely up, but a half-up version of this style is just as chic and red-carpet worthy. Pull the top half of your hair into a ponytail. Separate the pony into two sections. Twist the first section into a loose bun and bobby pin it down. Twist the second section, tucking it under your first twist and bobby pinning it down as well. Et, voila! A totally elegant half-up fancy ponytail.
Go for the Unexpected
Who says that the half of your head in the ponytail has to be on the top of your head? Blake Lively sported a creative, fashion-forward style on the set of "Gossip Girl." Lively's hair was sectioned into three horizontal parts. The first two were pulled into messy buns, and the bottom into a straight ponytail. If two buns are too much for you, part hair into two sections and go with just one bun and one ponytail. This style is a bit avant-garde and will definitely get you noticed!
